Attractive and more striking fresh May green Pillar in Antwerp

Find out more about the Antwerp pilot project with our green Pillar

To make the Pillar more noticeable in the Antwerp street scene, a pilot project was started in which 26 gray garbage bins were replaced with ones with a more striking, fresh green color. With this project, the city of Antwerp wants to investigate whether there is a connection between making the waste bin stand out more and its use.

26 green Pillars have been placed in 5 test zones where a lot of litter is left behind: Offerandestraat, Groenplaats, Eilandje, Sint-Jansplein and Ossenmarkt.

In addition to finding out whether the color determines whether people throw away their garbage more quickly and easily, it is also a cheap test. The originally gray garbage bins have simply been given a green layer. If the test proves ineffective, the color can be removed from the Pillar.

This experiment will run until the end of 2023.
