The city of Nieuwpoort takes a step towards a cleaner and more sustainable streetscape with the installation of 74 semi-underground Pillars. These Pillars have been strategically placed in tourist areas such as the Zeedijk, Albert I Avenue, and Lombardsijdestraat. With their larger capacity of 200 liters and thoughtful design, they contribute to more efficient waste management and a tidier city. The white color of the semi-underground bins provides a uniform and clean appearance to the streetscape. The waste bins are equipped with an anti-graffiti coating, and the surface finish prevents stickers from adhering.

Future-oriented waste management

With this targeted investment and an urban waste bin plan, Nieuwpoort aims not only to better manage waste streams but also to enhance the visitor experience. “By continuously aligning the waste bin plan with the needs of our city, we are working together to create a living environment that is clean, sustainable, and appealing for both residents and visitors.”

Larger capacity, fewer collections

The new bins have a significantly larger capacity (200L) compared to traditional waste containers. As a result, they require less frequent emptying, saving on fuel and vehicle costs. This contributes to lower CO₂ emissions and a more sustainable approach. Additionally, staff gain more time for other important tasks.

The bins are designed for "on-the-go" waste, such as general waste and PMD (plastic, metal, and drink cartons). The small disposal opening prevents household waste from being deposited in the bins. They are also equipped with an integrated cigarette receptacle, specifically aimed at reducing litter from cigarette butts and associated pollution.
